Loft conversions
Building up provides a huge opportunity to create more space with typical loft conersions unlocking an extra c. 350 - 500 sq ft of space. The space works well as bedrooms, bathrooms or additional living areas for the home and are a relatively cost effective to create a huge amount of new space.

Loft conversions FAQs
-
90% yes. Most houses, especially London terraced houses lend themselves ideally for loft conversions. The limit is usually the ridge of the existing house. If you can stand up in the loft, you should be fine. If you have to duck a little bit, you will need a ridge rise which should be OK if it is not too aggressive (300mm for example is usually OK). If your roof has a very shallow pitch or a butterfly roof there is a possibility it will not work for you.
-
This will depend on the size of the loft but typically it is around 6-8 weeks to finish structurally and then fit out is about the same again.
-
In many cases, loft conversions fall under permitted development rights, meaning you may not need planning permission. However, there are exceptions, particularly if you're altering the roof's shape or extending beyond certain limits.
-
There are many different types of loft conversion. The three most popular are a dormer, mansard and hip to gable. Which you are after will depend on the style of your property, available space, planning regulations, roof height and your budget.

Yes. Big time.
-
Not necessarily. But it’s nicer. If you have the budget to rent somewhere else during the works I don’t think you will regret it. Plenty of our clients live in whilst the conversion takes place. The most disruptive element is usually managing a new staircase installation but we would give you fair warning of when this is taking place. Up until then, the majority of works can usually commence without disrupting any part of your current home.

Building regulations does not stipulate a minimum height requirement for habitable rooms within a loft conversion although the wording is unclear. There are restrictions relating to the staircase but lofts are up for interpretation. 2.1m is the minimum viable height in my opinion, finished floor level to the underside of the ceiling.

Yes of course, it is easier to plumb the bathroom to the back of the house so avoid be aware around bathrooms in the eaves - plumbing maybe tricky.
